MEMBER OF THE MONTH: CHRIS YOUNG

I began my career in management consulting at CG Ernst & Young before joining three different startup/emerging consulting firms. In each, I helped build new service offerings, develop capabilities, and grow the client base through strong business development and long‑term relationship building. I rose from Consultant to Partner, and ultimately all three firms were acquired by major industry leaders, including EMC and Accenture. Those experiences shaped my understanding of growth, leadership, and the power of building something from the ground up. Everything changed in 2014 when my first son, Cameron, was born. Life as a road‑warrior consultant no longer aligned with the father I wanted to be. I moved into a local consulting role that allowed me to be present with my family, but I knew I wasn’t meant to remain an employee forever. I needed a new challenge that offered both impact and ownership.

I had always been interested in real estate, and I approached it the same way I had learned countless industries as a consultant. In late 2017, my business partner and I founded Camfred Construction, named after our sons Cameron and Fred. Entering Philadelphia’s mature and crowded general contracting market with limited startup capital was tough, and 2 years later the COVID shutdown was tougher. But we kept going, kept learning, and kept building. A little over 8 years later, Camfred Construction has grown into a recognized, trusted local firm with over $100 million in active annual project value, and our revenue has more than doubled from the previous year. We’ve built for clients and institutions that mean something personally, from healthcare to education to community spaces, including the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where my youngest son Charlie is a regular “CHOP kid.” Building in my adopted hometown, for people and organizations I genuinely care about, has been one of the most meaningful chapters of my professional life and I'm even more excited about the future.

In my community, I serve as a Board Member and Head Coach with the Philadelphia Dragons Youth Sports Association, helping young athletes build confidence, character, and community through baseball, basketball, and flag football. It's a year-round thing, but seeing kids have fun and helping them grow as athletes and individuals is extremely rewarding.
